Being similar products of the crystallization of melted magma that moves upwards from great depth inside the Earth, scientists distinguish effusive rocks (magma erupts out of the Earth’s surface) and intrusive rocks (magma remains inside the Earth, up to 1.5km or deeper below the Earth’s surface). As effusive rocks cool down rapidly only tiny crystals can be formed. Intrusive rocks usually form larger crystals, sometimes up to centimeters. Intrusive rocks are also known as plutonic rocks - a terminology derived from Pluto - name of the goddess who governs the Underworld in the Roman mythology. There are also shallow intrusive rocks which are closer to the ground. The intrusive rock of basic composition is called gabbro, that but at shallow depth is called diabase. The Earth consists of several layers, of which the outermost one is called the Earth's crust. In turns it is divided into oceanic, located beneath oceans, and continental. Gabbro is a major component of the oceanic crust, often associated with such minerals as iron, copper and nickel etc. Known also as "black granite", it is used as construction material. Cropped out at Seo Ho, near Dong Van District Town, are small bodies of shallow intrusive gabbro-diabase - a few dozen m2 in area, fresh, solid, dark blue, with typical mineral crystals up to 1-5mm in size. In the Dong Van UNESCO Global Geopark where seems to have mostly limestone and some sandstone, the presence of these bodies is an interesting feature. Together with the sandstone, they confirm the break-down of the ancient continent to form a new ocean in this locality about 250 million years ago
